Landscape & Planning

Every project begins with climate and site. Orientation, levels, drainage, existing trees and the approach to a building are settled before its form is, because they decide how it will be lived in.

Courtyards, verandahs, gardens and forecourts are designed with the building rather than added at the end. In the North Indian climate these in-between spaces do much of the work of keeping a building comfortable.

For resorts, institutions and multi-building sites, planning covers the arrangement of buildings, movement, open space and phasing, so a site can be built over time without losing its order.
